vert is dead, again

saw this EXPN link over on skatedaily and the jist is the XGames are dropping the vert portion of the contest and moving towards the “super park”. WTF, mate? what is the super park? part black pearl part shangha with a mega ramp thrown in for good measurei? what? skateboarding and super ____ dont really mix. i mean honestly i respect the dudes riding the super mega ramps but that isnt what i signed up for when i started skateboarding. i followed verts death in the 80’s my mini ramp had a vert extension and even skated a vert ramp at mount trashmore in VA on a family vacation. skating vert is attainable. this influx of mega skateboarding is hard to grasp in reality and is such a small percentage of skateboarding that its sad to think that kids being first exposed to skateboarding is such a reach. where are these mega super parks? not around the corner for most. skateboarding belongs in the streets and the backyard pools/ramps where it began so that kids will be more inclined to pick it up and keep it going. skateboarding is never going to die but this sense exclusivity doesnt belong.
