Lawrence Lessig is preparing a two prong approach to clean up congress. the first is his change congress initiative and a deciding on whether to run for congress himself in CA. Lessig came to my attention through his free culture push and his copyright reform talks, namely his TED talk entitled How creativity is being strangled by the law. he is a very very smart man on many fronts and would be a welcome addition to congress along with a good handful of his friends and colleagues as well. i say do it. new blood, new ideas are needed within washington to help this country move forward and out of the grips of money tainted lobbyists.

comcast changed their terms of service recently to get back in line with current protocol with the FCC regarding throttling of P2P services. ars technica has a write up of what it means. i hope FIOS is rolled into my neighborhood by the time my triple play deal with comast is up cos if it is i am jumping ship.

via techcrunch. this is awesome. google is finally pulling their apps together to make them useful in one place. microsoft has their sharepoint webapp platform and exchange but without using windows youre kind of SOL. mac office 2008 is still a huge letdown when compared to office 07 for windows. but thats not what i am here to talk about cos those cost money. this new team edition seems to be crossing into the basecamp collaborative working sphere and that is interesting. what makes this super interesting is the fact that the standard edition is free with unlimited users. this coming year is going to be very interesting as far as internet technologies go.

the library of congress has begun to populate flickr with gojillions of images. this is a government project i can fully back. by adding the images to flickr and tagging them allows for indepth searching and indexing of the images thus making a huge catalog useful in a new way. you can find it here. hopefully this will start to set a precedent and government bodies will be a bit more open with things that belong to the american people in the first place.
