keith haring 50th birthday mural recreation

the keith haring foundation is working to recreate a mural that was painted over at houston and bowery. recreated from many pictures of the original. the mural will only be around till new years eve. a testament to the the fleeting nature of street art.

philly ’street money’ profiled by limeys, wheres the inky?

i first heard about this ’street money’ thing a few weeks back. basically, its a throwback to olde tyme politics where ward leaders are given some money to get the vote out, but like most money influenced things it went more to ‘other things’. sticking to his words obama isnt buying into this and its throwing the system off in the neighborhoods. sad thing is, this whole ’street money’ thing isnt getting much coverage locally. heres a guardian uk article outlining the whole deal. somethings are starting to make sense now when looking back at the past few times i voted. i wonder if i will hear from a certain neighbor regarding hillz.

janes addiction matter again, one night only

janes addiction OG bassist eric avery is playing a one off gig with the band when they accept some award at the first NME america show. this is cool cos in the press release dude basically sums up my feelings on reunion shows/tours.

“I’ve chosen to reject the prospects of reuniting in the past for personal and philosophical reasons. I have always considered reunions to be a way to make a quick buck, and it sells short my own experience of it the first time around,” He adds, “The reason I started to even consider this is because it’s honoring the past instead of trying to recreate it.”

ive basically ripped off buddyhead on this post but whatevs those dudes are jerks anyways.

vert is dead, again

saw this EXPN link over on skatedaily and the jist is the XGames are dropping the vert portion of the contest and moving towards the “super park”. WTF, mate? what is the super park? part black pearl part shangha with a mega ramp thrown in for good measurei? what? skateboarding and super ____ dont really mix. i mean honestly i respect the dudes riding the super mega ramps but that isnt what i signed up for when i started skateboarding. i followed verts death in the 80’s my mini ramp had a vert extension and even skated a vert ramp at mount trashmore in VA on a family vacation. skating vert is attainable. this influx of mega skateboarding is hard to grasp in reality and is such a small percentage of skateboarding that its sad to think that kids being first exposed to skateboarding is such a reach. where are these mega super parks? not around the corner for most. skateboarding belongs in the streets and the backyard pools/ramps where it began so that kids will be more inclined to pick it up and keep it going. skateboarding is never going to die but this sense exclusivity doesnt belong.
