but theres a catch…. from wikipedia:”Danny Boy” is a song whose lyrics are set to the Irish tune “The Londonderry Air”. The lyrics were originally written for a different tune in 1910 by Frederick Weatherly, an English lawyer who never actually visited Ireland, and modified to fit the Londonderry Air in 1913. The first recording was made by Ernestine Schumann-Heink in 1915. Weatherly gave the song to Elsie Griffin, who made it one of the most popular in the new century. Weatherly later suggested in 1928 that the second verse would provide a fitting requiem for the actress Ellen Terry.
sent a text to haveboard regarding this friday night. drive by and shot a photo with my phone. whoever took this spot down did it with a vengeance. anything and everything that was cement there for the most part whether it was skateable or not was destroyed. according to the philadelphia board of revision and taxes the land at 1131 GERMANTOWN AVE is owned by NORTHERN LIBERTIES DEVELO. apparently it was bought for $4 in 2000 and its market value is only $10,800. nothing goes on there other than valet parking from further up 2nd street. so my only conclusion is NORTH LIBERTIES DEVELO hates not only skateboarding but fun and young people in general, but will want them to live in their condos when they realize that skateboarders make up the ‘creative class’ that they are marketing to. fuck these dudes.
god! i hate the electric factory. i have had very few good experiences there and yet we still went last night to see the pogues. the opening band was godawful and people booed. as bad as a band is i am not going to boo them cos at least they have the balls to go up on stage in front of a bunch of wankers. the pogues for the most part played well and played all the hits though im betting since the sound was subpar in the audience i can only imagine what the monitor mix they were listening to sounded like. a few songs spider was ahead of the rest or drums were a bit off time from the rest. it was an odd night and i felt bad for the lads. the crowd were a bunch of drunken louts and not the good time. i am kinda over people with this false sense of connection to ireland and just using it as an excuse to drink and obnoxious. after visiting ireland it allowed me to connect a bit more with the heritage, personality and the past that i only slightly knew and these fat ‘philly irish’ have no idea about. i enjoyed the show tho overall cos they are all good musicians and the songs have a special place in my heart no matter what. next time they should play at the TLA and have streets of sorrow on the setlist.
beating inga to the punch on this new monster of a building in center city? phillyskyline.com with the scoop on a new building at 1800 arch st that will take the wind out of the comcast buildings wings both with height and LEED certification. take that! thatll show you that throttling bandwith is bad! but in the end is this another sign that old media is fading away?
this record blew away my expectations. it hit me in the same way when tragedy released ‘vengeance’ in that a band you would think is somewhat pigeon holed went in a direction and totally surprised you. until this release PiB were fun live but to be honest kind of meh on the ole ipod. dudes pooled from their reservoir of inspiration and put together a hardcore record that breaks some boundaries. i didnt want to list but here goes some of the influences i hear: big black, fracture, and naked raygun. i slept on the record release shows but am psyched to hear these songs live.
